FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Trinity Thomas of Florida tied the all-time record with her 28th career perfect-10 and Oklahoma won its second consecutive team title — the top-ranked Sooner’ sixth in the last nine years — Saturday at the NCAA women’s gymnastics championships. Oklahoma finished with 198.3875 points, 0.15 ahead of Thomas and the second-ranked Gators. Audrey Davis scored a 9.900 on the floor before teammate Jordan Bowers — who soared high on a double pike during a spectacular routine — earned the event’s top score of 9.950 to help the Sooners take control. Thomas, a fifth-year senior, was limited to just two events due to an leg injury suffered two weeks ago in the regional round, recorded her fifth career 10 on the vault and 28th overall to match the mark set by Jamie Dantzcher (UCLA, 2000-04) and Jenny Hansen (Kentucky, 1992-96) — the latter of whom is the only person to win three straight all-around titles. Thomas wrapped up her stellar collegiate career ...

South Florida drivers continue to have trouble fueling up after a delay on gas deliveries due to this week’s wicked weather.Flooding at Port Everglades temporarily halted the pickup of fuel and delivery to gas stations across Broward and Miami-Dade.As of Saturday, water has finally cleared from the port, and officials are optimistic.“So we’re excited again to have that back in operation. Be patient when it comes to fuel,” said Broward County Mayor Lamar P. Fisher. “We should have no problem getting fuel to our gas stations. Most importantly, we’re getting mutual aid from Port Everglades as well as Tampa.”But some gas stations have run dry.Driver Allison Head said she went to over half a dozen locations before she found one with a pump that wasn’t empty.“I stopped at seven different gas stations, and by the eighth one, I found one, and there were long lines,” she said. “I came back here, and we’re experiencing th...

Police provide update on handling of missing persons cases two years after critical report

Published Sun, 16 Feb 2025 16:08:56 GMT

It’s been two years since the release of an independent review into the Toronto police’s handling of missing person cases. On Saturday, a community engagement event held at City Hall provided an update on the implementation of the recommendations contained in the Missing and Missed Report and the plan going forward. In 2018, the Toronto Police Services Board commissioned an independent review to evaluate how the police service conducted missing person investigations, particularly in relation to 2SLGBTQ+ and vulnerable or marginalized communities. On April 13, 2021, an independent review found serious instances of systemic discrimination and flaws in how the police service investigated disappearances, including the case of serial killer Bruce McArthur who preyed on men in the city’s gay village for close to a decade. The report made 151 recommendations, including the creation of the Missing and Missed Implementation Team (MMIT) which is using a modernized community-centri...
