Lawyers suing JetBlue say the airline could raise fares on some routes after buying Spirit Airlines

JetBlue Airways could raise fares on some routes by up to 40% if it succeeds in buying Spirit Airlines and eliminating the low-fare carrier as a competitor on those routes, according to lawyers who are suing the airline to block the deal. The estimations were contained in court filings made earlier this week, and which JetBlue says were not properly redacted.JetBlue said Thursday that the filings are based on the opposition lawyers’ interpretation of evidence, and are taking facts out of context.Consumer advocates jumped on the news, saying that the accidental disclosure supports the Justice Department’s antitrust lawsuit aiming to block JetBlue’s $3.8 billion purchase of Spirit, the nation’s largest discount airline.Even before the government lawsuit, lawyers for about two dozen consumers sued JetBlue and Spirit last November in U.S. district court in Boston, claiming that the merger would reduce competition and lead to higher prices.Documents filed Tuesday by the consumers...

Colts rookie QB Richardson has mixed performance in preseason victory over Eagles

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 13:33:33 GMT

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Indianapolis rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson displayed flashes of promise but also showed that there’s much work to do, helping the Colts beat the Philadelphia Eagles 27-13 on Thursday night in the preseason finale for each team. Named the starter after the preseason opener at Buffalo, Richardson completed 6 of 17 passes for 78 yards and ran five times for 38 yards in the first half. The 6-foot-4 passer was the No. 4 overall pick out of Florida. New Colts coach Shane Steichen helped Philadelphia’s Jalen Hurts transform from a second-round pick with questions into one of the NFL’s elite quarterbacks during the last two seasons as the Eagles’ offensive coordinator. He will try to do the same with Richardson in in Indianapolis. On the fourth drive for the Colts (2-1), Richardson showed flashes of greatness, hitting Kylen Granson in traffic for 17 yards and twice avoiding sacks. He also was off target on several throws, most of which sailed high, in the o...

DENVER (KDVR) — In a 6-1 decision late Thursday night, the Denver Public Schools board voted to terminate the employment of Kurt Dennis.Dennis was the principal at McAuliffe International School when a campus whistleblower revealed there was a seclusion room with a lock on the outside. Seclusion rooms with locks are against DPS rules. Baldermann argued some of the actions that followed the revelation of the seclusion room violated Dennis' right to due process."Board members conducted their own investigations related to this personnel matter, which also likely violated board policy," Baldermann said.Other members of the board, particularly Auon'tai Anderson and Michelle Quattlebaum, opposed Baldermann's take on the issue."Am I subverting someone's due process by saying publicly we have to start believing our children? Zito: From Afghanistan to Maui, Biden’s empathy is AWOL

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 13:33:33 GMT

Last week, after spending several hours on Rehoboth Beach in Delaware, President Joe Biden was asked by a member of the press pool about the rising death toll in Hawaii.Bloomberg reporter Justin Sink tweeted Biden’s “no comment” response as the president left for his home in Delaware. With over 100 people dead and 10 times that number still unaccounted for, how hard would it have been for Biden to say something evoking the empathy the people of Hawaii need, the country needs, in those brief moments as he walked in the sand from his day at the beach? But he didn’t. And we’ve seen this craven indifference before.Almost to the day two years ago, a chaotic two-week evacuation of 125,000 people from Kabul resulted in the horrific deaths of 13 American service members; it took Biden over a week for him to address the deaths to the public, and when he did in a speech to the nation, he spent the entire 23 minutes forcefully rejecting any criticism of his decision...
