HOUSTON — The San Francisco Giants brought in a former All-Star catcher last month, but they will move forward with the two young backstops currently on the roster. The Giants released veteran Gary Sánchez on Tuesday, a day after he had the right to opt out if he wasn’t on their active roster.Since signing a minor-league deal last month, Sánchez had played 16 games at Triple-A Sacramento but had recorded only one extra-base hit (a double) in 55 at-bats and was hitting .164/.319/.182 (a .501 OPS). Initially brought in to solidify one of the biggest question marks on the Giants’ roster, the club determined that Sánchez wouldn’t be an upgrade over their current catching combo of Joey Bart and Blake Sabol.“I just don’t think at this time he was an option for our major-league club,” manager Gabe Kapler said before their game Tuesday against the Astros. “That being said I’m sure there’s a desire for Gary to find an opportunity and for us, that wasn’t rig...Woman arrested for allegedly throwing drink at Rep. HOUSTON — Giants manager Gabe Kapler responded Tuesday to Mauricio Dubón’s comments after Monday night’s game that he felt he was “not treated the right way” in San Francisco, saying that he was happy for Dubón’s success in Houston but pushed back against the narrative that he didn’t get enough opportunities.“I feel like we gave Mauricio a lot of good opportunities,” Kapler said before Tuesday’s game. “In my experience over the years seeing lots of major league players, when players are not getting all of the opportunities they want and they’re not performing, generally speaking they’re not overjoyed about their situation. … We always said to Mauricio, and I would probably continue to say to any player today, if you perform really well you’re going to get lots of opportunities.”Dubón admitted that he was a little emotional and overexcited Monday night, after collecting three hits, driving in two runs and scoring...Letters: Not ready for ban | Accountability needed | Blood on hands | High court oversight | Defending indefensible
